Lessons include developing a styling concept, where to find style inspiration, how to build a moodboard to illustrate a vision, sourcing clothes and vintage pieces, styling different body types, tailoring and fitting skills, editorial and personal styling, and building your personal brand and portfolio.
The course consists of five online modules and related skill-building activities. Each module takes 3-5 hours to complete and is broken into shorter lessons that students work on at their own pace. Upon finishing our fashion styling course, students earn a non-credit certificate of completion from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
Explore the history of fashion styling and the significance of the stylist as the storyteller and tastemaker through our fashion styling course. Students will develop their unique fashion point of view and learn how to translate it into styling by pulling, sorting, and organizing images into moodboards.
Dive deep into the realm of personal styling with our fashion styling course. Learn how to uncover a client’s style personality, how to style different body types, and how to style clients on different budgets. Students will also learn the essential tools they need in their styling kit, the basics of tailoring and fit, and how to source clothes and vintage pieces.
There are many styling career paths beyond the catwalk. Explore commercial, editorial, and personal styling work and all the associated careers in between. Students will narrow down what type of stylist they want to become, learn how to break into the field, book clients and gigs, and the differences between agency representation and working as a freelancer.
What does it take to produce a fashion photoshoot from start to finish? Students will learn everything involved in a fashion shoot production, the stylist’s responsibilities before, during, and after a shoot, and get a basic look into image editing and retouching.
Develop your personal brand as a fashion stylist. Learn how to promote yourself and what it takes to nurture relationships to lead to more clients and opportunities. Take a fashion styling course to build a professional portfolio and discover how to use social media to your advantage.
