  • The increased access to audiences

One of the biggest mistakes artists make is putting the cart before the horse. They are quick to talk about marketing, visual appeal, and making videos. They focus on things that surround the music to help it succeed. However, any faculty member at the Clive Davis Institute would say the most fundamental principle of the music industry is the song. Without the song, nothing else matters. Many aspiring artists fail to recognize that there is no music industry without the song. There must be a great song with a catchy hook, a memorable melody, strong lyrics, and great production. It must be copyrighted and registered.

Over the past ten years, the digital age has brought about tremendous change in the music industry. Now, it’s healthier than it’s been in quite some time. As a result, artists have more opportunities to earn money through making music than ever before. With online music education, you can learn what those opportunities are and how to capitalize on them.

Without the gatekeepers of the music industry — major record labels and producers — controlling what music the audience gets to hear, you as an artist or manager have the opportunity to take songs to an audience directly on your own. Without the music education to do that effectively, you’re leaving money on the table.
