There’s more interest in careers in fashion than ever before. One of the fastest-growing areas is personal and commercial styling. When a famous personality hits the red carpet in a viral fashion moment, the “what are they wearing?” question has evolved into “who styled them?” Aspiring fashionistas are taking notice — as of March 2022, the #styleinspo hashtag has 3.4 billion views on Tiktok. To help potential stylists gain the skills necessary to break into the field, Yellowbrick has partnered with The Fashion Institute of Technology and WWD to launch the Fashion Styling Foundations online course. The on-demand course educates students on fit basics, tailoring, securing clients, and honoring clients’ identities. Students who complete the course will receive a non-credit Certificate of Completion from FIT.
There are five Fashion Styling Foundations modules:
- Storytelling with Style
- The Elements of Personal Styling
- Career Paths and Professional Practices
- Photo Styling and The Test Shoot
- Self-Promotion and Marketing
Students receive instruction from some of the most innovative names in fashion. Sadia Seymour, Jeffrey Ampratwum, Alex Badia, Bianca Balconis, and Matthew Marden are featured, course instructors. Lessons include creating moodboards, sourcing clothes, styling for photoshoots, forecasting fashion trends, and telling a story through style.
