Student Success: Yasmin Yusuff

Yasmin was unsure of her next step in hospitality when she came across Hospitality and Tourism Industry Essentials. All she knew was that she had a unique idea for a tourism company, but lacked the knowledge to navigate the industry. She enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism Industry Essentials to better prepare herself for a journey as a hospitality entrepreneur. She spoke with Yellowbrick about her time in the course and her student success.

Hospitality and Tourism Industry Essentials allowed me to make the next step in my education. The course gave me the background skills I needed before starting my graduate studies.

ON CHOOSING HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM INDUSTRY ESSENTIALS ESSENTIALS —

I had just thought of starting my personalized boutique itinerary company, Sleepy Flyers Club, and I enrolled in this course to gain the background skills I needed for the industry. I also needed to decide if I wanted to pursue a program like this in grad school.

Hospitality and Tourism Industry Essentials allowed me to make the next step in my education. The course gave me the background skills I needed before starting my graduate studies in the industry since I didn’t major in this field in undergrad.

ON BEING A YELLOWBRICK STUDENT —

The last course, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism,” with Professor Karaburun was very informative. Being an entrepreneur, it was great to have a course dedicated to that, especially about creating a business plan and an exit strategy!

I think that learning about different aspects of the industry helped me gain a better understanding of each sector.

ON REAL-LIFE APPLICATION —

I think that learning about different aspects of the industry helped me gain a better understanding of each sector. It will allow me to be more understanding, knowledgeable, and compassionate about those roles whether I am partnering with them for my business or encountering them in my daily life. Taking this course helped me make the decision to apply to NYU for their MA in Tourism Management program.

ON THE PAST & WHAT’S NEXT —

During the pandemic, I started my own businesses, Sleepy Flyers Club and Our Vintage Earth. I am also currently pursuing my MS in Travel and Tourism Management at NYU.
