Method acting draws on your own emotions and experiences to inform a performance, while character acting is about studying and embodying a character distinct from yourself. In this course you'll learn how both approaches apply to bringing animated characters to life.
Pantomime is performance that tells a story through body language, posing, and emotion without using dialogue. It's one of the two acting exercises you'll animate in this course, alongside an animated dialogue shot.
Pantomime forces you to communicate a story and emotion through clear posing and body mechanics alone, which builds the performance fundamentals every dialogue and acting shot is built on.
You need a working understanding of Autodesk Maya. If you're brand new to Maya, start with our Maya Workshop first, then come back for Introduction to Acting.
12 weeks, mentor-led: pre-recorded lectures, weekly 1-hour live Q&As, and 2 acting assignments with weekly 1:1 feedback from your mentor. The course is taught in English and open to students 18 and older.
Introduction to Acting is application-based. Apply at Animation Mentor, and once you're accepted you choose your mentor and register for class. Registration is open from May 18, 2026 to July 5, 2026.
