Like movies, video games often tell a story as they play out. Tribeca Film festival has recognized that and incorporated VR and other gaming events and programming into their festival. Next year is the 20th Anniversary of Tribeca Film. To celebrate that milestone, Tribeca Film is adding a new section to their festival. For the first time ever, Tribeca Film is calling for games to join the festival as official selections to be eligible for the Tribeca Games award. This is an inaugural selection and award category for the festival. Ten years ago was the first time Tribeca Film featured games at the festival. What started with features of League of Legends, God of War, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Beyond Two Souls, Firewatch, and What Remains of Edith Finch has evolved into an entire selection for an award!
Selected works will have to demonstrate artistic excellence in storytelling and creativity. There will be an all-star advisory panel to assist in the Tribeca Games’ portion of the festival. Gaming Industry leaders and filmmakers will share their talents and expertise to ensure that the submission selections are top-notch. Filmmaker Nia DaCosta; writer, producer, and director Jon Favreau; co-founder of Electronic Arts Bing Gordon; The Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley; legendary DEATH STRANDING creator Hideo Kojima; creative director of Remedy Entertainment Sam Lake; and head of Halo Transmedia & Entertainment Kiki Wolfkill are all named to be on the advisory board for gaming.
Final deadline for submissions is January 13, 2021. For more information on how you can enter, visit https://tribecafilm.com/festival/submissions.
