Social media gives fashion marketing teams the ability to directly engage with their brand’s audience. However, with so many different platforms, it may not be easy to decide which ones are best for your overall goals. Nevertheless, unlocking your social media strategy can boost your brand visibility and product sales relatively quickly with little expense. Tim Marshall, Fashion Industry Essentials contributor and Chief Academic Officer at the New School, discusses navigating social media and making it work for your brand.

Never Stop Creating

Once you have figured out where your audience is and which platforms you want to focus on, you need to create, create, create! There are so many new tools across social media platforms that are affected by how often you post. For example, the Instagram algorithm may have worked well for you until they decided to change things. Suddenly, we’re not chronological anymore. You now need to post six times a day to figure out when your audience will see and like your posts. In fashion marketing, content creation has to be consistent and frequent.

In a creative sense, you know what your message is, and you know how you want to deliver it. Whether it’s going to be 140 characters, a 60-second video, or a 10-minute YouTube stream, you want to continue to innovate. So you have to figure out unique and exciting ways to deliver your content. This helps you out in the long run because you can convey your message to a wider audience on a variety of different platforms.

Grow Your Fashion Marketing Audience

Once you decide which platforms are best suited for your brand, you need to pivot to building a larger audience. Going back to the Instagram example, use relevant hashtags on your posts. This can help to boost your posts and build your audience organically on the platform. People will find your posts through these hashtags and will follow you. They might also tag you in their pictures, which can help you grow even further.

Some people don’t like it when others post their tag clouds, but it can be helpful. They boost your discovery rate, whether you have a personal or professional account. Another means of growing your account is to tag your photos. For example, if you’re wearing branded clothing in your posts, tag them. Their audience will see your posts when they go onto the brand’s tagged photos.
